Continuity of Operations (COOP)
In 2006, the Fire/EMS/Safety Center successfully secured a grant to create a template to encompass the Continuity of Operations Plan. It was meant to be a database and guide to help campuses fulfill the federal and state mandate to accomplish this planning. The template is, by matter of necessity, very large to provide adequate space for any size campus to capture all of their vital functions and to develop strategies for recovery after a significant event.
Due to the size of the template and the linkages within the database, it is not possible to post a copy on the web site. For a blank copy of the COOP template contact the Fire/EMS/Safety Center.
As stated on the main page, COOP is an inventory of the critical campus functions and strategies for the recovery of those functions. Many of the functions are dependent on other functions and this tool allows decision makers to prioritize and focus on the functions required to operate the educational environment. Every function on campus has a part to play, from the purely academic courses to the laboratories and technical courses. The su[pporting functions are also critical, from Information Technology to Facilities.
Each function establishes their critical processes and dependencies and then provides information on strategies for prioritization and recovery of those critical processes. For additional information contact the Fire/EMS/Safety Center for training and counsel on how to use this vital component of the All Hazards Plan.
