What can you do to get ready for the Bachelor's of Applied Science Degree?

The Bachelor of Applied Science Degree is built on a "2 + 2" platform. This means that the first 2 years of the Bachelor Degree must be taken at our 2 Year Colleges. We have determined that you must complete the AAS in Fire Science Technology or have an equivalent before entering the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree program. This is because of the strong emphasis on written communications and technical knowledge needed in order to do the work on the Web.

Therefore your starting point is to contact one of the 3 Colleges that grant an AAS Degree in Fire Science. They will help you determine what you need to do to complete your AAS Degree or they can determine if you have the needed equivalent. You can contact:

Northland Fire Protection Degree for program information

What will be available for those of you who have the needed AAS or Equivalent?
We have 3 options that will be available to you:

  1. We have on-going fire technical courses that you can enroll in to get started.

  2. Southwest Minnesota State University has partnerships will other colleges throughout the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System where they offer many of the Administration courses through distance learning or on-campus courses.

  3. You will be able to start the Liberal Arts Core. These courses can be taken anywhere in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System offering them. This means you should be able to start your degree at any of the 53 Campuses.
